Teacher effectiveness in the implementation of the thematic curriculum in the primary school sector

This project will examine whether the thematic curriculum for primary education in being implemented effectively. It will focus especially on the teaching methods and styles and the approaches to assessment that are being used, in order to determine how far these are appropriate. It will develop a strategy to support approaches to implementing this in schools and to the education of teachers that recognise and promote a wider range of pedagogical styles.

Teacher effectiveness in teaching science and mathematics in the secondary school sector

This project will study the current approaches to the teaching of science and mathematics at the secondary level with the focus on the use of problem solving. Both curriculum content and assessment processes will be reviewed critically in the light of existing pedagogy. It will develop astrategy to support approaches to teaching and learning and to the education of teachers that recognise and promote a wider range of pedagogical skills in the teaching of science and mathematics at the secondary level.

Teacher effectiveness—teaching and learning improvements

This is a mentoring and shadowing project focusing on the work of teacher educators and education officers in Uganda, in relation to critical areas of pedagogy for the primary and secondary levels. The project will report on the mentoring process itself as well as the issues of teacher education and support for teachers
